Testimony Letter from a Supporter

Dear Bosco,

I listened to a sermon about tithing this week. God wants to bless us when we give to help each other. I figured it didn't have to all go to the church. Anyway, I'm praying God will bless Don and all his friends and family through this action.

I believe when you give to help others, it starts the circle moving. It comes back to you in some good blessing. I feel like we could all use some extra strength and love right now.

Love you,

Heather

Follow up to the letter above!

I have another wonderful story for you.

I was desperately seeking comfort, strength, and reassurance when I went to church the first time after Don died. The church bulletin said the sermon was entitled “Tithing.” I was so disappointed I wanted to walk out. I didn’t want to give anyone anything. I wanted to receive!

The preacher said we could keep 100% of our money, or we could keep 90% and be blessed. I know everything good we have comes from God. I believe God expects us to use what he has given us - our time, treasure, and talents - to do his work in the world. The preacher told us a story about how giving when he didn’t think he could afford to helped him grow in faith. I guess the new thing I heard that day was that giving could help me.

So, I wrote a check to A Day for New Life. I figured everything didn’t have to go to the church, as long as it went towards God’s work. Don had asked me over and over to give a donation for 2007, but I had always refused.

Then, I started to look for those blessings I wanted so much. I felt great about helping Bosco and the guys at the center. I thought Don would smile about that. I was also comforted through the gifts of nature and the people around me.

Then, this week, I got a call from a lawyer I had for a hit-and-run drunk driver case four years ago. The case had been closed two years ago because the man could never be found. He was running from several crimes, and not even his ex-wives could find him. A new insurance agent wanted to clean up several old files, and offered a nice settlement for what we all had assumed was a closed case. The lawyer told me this had happened only once or twice in his whole career. It was totally unexpected and amazing!

The first thing that came to my mind was that God had blessed me! I received back double what I gave and then more! I’m not writing this to boast, but to share my feelings of excitement and thankfulness. Almost everyone I’ve told about this has had a similar story in that it is through giving that we receive. What do you think of that!?
